Ivittuut is the site of a former cryolite mining
operation.
The operation was abandoned when the cryolite ran out. However, when the people left they seemed to have left all of the buildings and equipment behind. Some of the buildings are now summer homes but many are abandoned.
The equipment was showing neglect and made for great photo ops.
The mining quarry is now a small lake.

There were a fair number of wildflowers around.
But the main attraction was the musk oxen. Apparently they can be quite dangerous so the
guides went ashore and managed to clear the area. When we all got ashore most headed straight
to some small hilltops behind the settlement where there were good views of the
musk oxen in the distance.

Was a great visit but then we had to head back to the ship.
In the afternoon we attended a couple of lectures on Greenland and also had Afternoon Tea in the Observation Lounge. We both ate enough that we decided to skip dinner.
